Is a song ever done? Always and never.

I have evolved my perspective overtime to accept the notion that piece of music is never actually ever really done. This idea may sound counter productive, but for me it relieves a certain amount of self-imposed pressure to achieve a somewhat mythical notion of "perfection". Early in my career it was very difficult for me to share draft of songs with others because I thought they weren't "ready" or they weren't "good enough" or the quality of the recording "could be improved". Taken to the extreme a perfectionist (such as myself) would argue (as I used to) that potentially a song is never good enough, ready enough, perfect enough, or whatever enough to be shared with anyone ever. But this perspective runs contrary to the whole purpose of music: which is that it should be experienced and that should be shared. So about three years ago I decided that I was going to essentially over-share my music. I have used my soundcloud account to essentially share all different kinds of recordings of my music in different stages of development, in different contexts, with different recording equipment. I have posted live performances recorded with an iPhone, live rehearsals off the room microphone, sketches of rough vocal and music ideas, and of course more polished productions as well.
